Web Design Makeover Presentation and Contest
Wednesday June 28th 2006, 2:16 pm

Gagan Diesh, a senior instructor for the Digital Design program and founder of DesignStamp, will deliver a web design presentation at the Vancouver Public Library on Tuesday, July 18.

Diesh will provide tips for successful web design and discuss the essentials of the user experience, one of the most important subjects in modern design. Diesh has “five steps to better visual web design,” which he will describe using examples. As well, Diesh will offer a brief history of the web, the state of design in the present-day (good, bad, and ugly), and what to expect from web design in the years to come.

Diesh hopes to “give people some tools to begin their research and planning to build the next/new version of their websites. To understand the complexity of the task ahead so they can train themselves or hire the right team to build the most
appropriate website for them.”

There’s also a contest. Submit your website to the VPL, and the lucky winners will have a chance to receive a live, five-minute website makeover from Gagan at the event. The evening will conclude with Diesh’s four mantras for designing a great website.

Before joining VFS, Gagan worked with a leading audio technology company and headed design projects for clients such as Apple , Universal Music , eDigital and Sorenson. His own company DesignStamp offers design solutions to meet the needs of companies both small and large, and his clients include Marriot Hotels, Future Shop, Blast Radius, and many others. DesignStamp has experience across various mediums such as the web, interactive WebTV, print, signage, and video, all of which will inform Diesh’s discussion at the VPL.

“When designing a website,” Diesh says, “people should consider the options available to them much like they would when it comes to investing a sum of money. You can hire a credible firm to do it for you, you can take a course and become a professional yourself, or you can try, make a few mistakes, and hope to do it right after a few times.”

Find out which option suits your needs by attending Diesh’s presentation.
