Since graduating from Sound Design, Caitlin (Lord) Kaposhilin has been working at Pump Audio — a site that offers music (the real kind, not the stock kind!) for licensing for film, TV, ads, and video projects.
What that means for Caitlin:
“I started out working as a classifier here, and this week I began working on “re-scores”, which is really fun, and that’s where my VFS skills are so key.
I’m working in ProTools on a show for VH1 called Veronica Mars. They are re-airing it, so instead of purchasing the rights to all those big mainstream songs again, they hire us to replace the songs in the show with music from our catalog. So my job is to find new songs that fit the mood of the scene, and then cut the audio into the master session.
I’m working for the mixer — all through the Sound Design program, in every class, we learned how to edit to make the mixer’s job easier. And because the teachers passed on so many real-world tips about working efficiently & being ultra-organized, (and by getting a taste of what it’s like to be a mixer so you know what they’re looking for), I can really wrap my head around the whole process.
Everything I learned is so relevant to life “in the real world” here at my job – it’s just how they said it would be, and that’s why I refer back to my education constantly.”
Oddly enough, I think the Sound folks are used to hearing this kind of praise!
Last week, Pump Audio partnered with Photobucket to provide copyright-cleared, independent music to Photobucket users, who create and share remixes & mashups of their photo slideshows and videos. Fun just became a little more legal. Thanks, Caitlin!

I’m Caitlin’s proud Dad. She is a star but couldn’t have gotten this job without her VFS training. Thank You VFS! You’ll also remember Caitlin’s brother Guthrie, who was her VFS classmate. See his myspace page for his latest. Double proud!

Sounds like a rad job. Do they allow you to telecommute, or do you have to work an the office environment?

Good for you. Caitlin! Just wondering do you have any kind of music of film background before you took the sound design program?
