Pop goes VFS

VFS Coverpop by KrazyDadEver heard of Coverpops? It’s a sweet new visual interface invented by master Flash coder, Jim Bumgardner, aka KrazyDad. KD has already built coverpops to search tagged videos on YouTube, as well as cult movies to bestselling handbags at Amazon.

After being blown away by the idea, we asked nicely begged KD if he might be able to make a coverpop of all the VFS student videos we’ve posted to YouTube, and he was generous enough to do so — VFS brand and all. Check it out!

What inspired the coverpops project?

“It’s a personal project with no real goal. One reviewer said ‘art & commerce meet and give each other a warm hug’. I liked that. Here’s a page which describes the origin of the coverpop project.

You’re also a teacher. Any advice to students in our Digital Design program who want to make it in the world of motion & graphic design, and web development?

Learn how to learn. Do not get mentally chained to today’s technologies (especially any one single technology, such as Maya or Flash), for they will be radically different in 10 years. Learn to rapidly juggle multiple technologies. For the Coverpop site, I used Perl, ImageMagick, Processing, Flash and PHP.

Thanks again, KrazyDad!
