Behind the Scenes
Grover’s Mill was the first live-action VFS film to use miniatures. “We looked and looked but couldn’t find a suitable exterior,” says Writer/Director Paul St. Amand. “Being a huge fan of Peter Jackson – who loves miniatures – I asked the art director, Scott Williams, if we could do the station as a model. He just shrugged and said, ‘sure’. I don’t know if he realized how much work he’d just agreed to.”
Film Production at Vancouver Film School
Students in the one-year Film Production program at VFS, mentored by respected film professionals, learn filmmaking from top to bottom while they direct, produce, write, shoot, design, and edit short dramas and documentaries that become their calling cards in the industry.
Student films made at VFS have premiered at major festivals around the world, including Cannes, Tribeca, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, and graduates have been honored at the Emmys and Independent Spirit Awards.
